Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you entrust us with a photograph
Learn about suitable photographs, what restoration can and cannot do, adding colour, payment, delivery, privacy, deletion and refunds.
What kinds of photographs can be restored?
MemoryRevive is designed for old family portraits, wedding photographs, snapshots and small inherited collections. Use the clearest scan or camera copy you have. The upload box accepts common image files and shows the size and number allowed.
Should I scan the original or take a camera photograph?
A high-quality scan usually gives the best result, but a careful camera copy can work. Keep the camera square to the photograph, use even indirect light, avoid glare and include all four edges. Do not risk removing a fragile photograph from a mount.
Will my original upload be changed?
No. MemoryRevive leaves the uploaded original unchanged and restores a separate private copy. Your private order page shows when the photograph and finished files will be deleted. You can ask for earlier deletion where that option is available.
Can a completely missing face or detail be reconstructed exactly?
No. AI helps create the restoration, but it cannot know information that is no longer present. The result may include a careful guess, so exact identity, words, objects, colours and historical details cannot be guaranteed.
Will restoration make people look younger or modernise the photograph?
That is not the aim. The restoration instructions are designed to preserve apparent age, expression, facial structure, hairstyle, clothing, pose, setting, composition and period character without beautifying or modernising the scene.
How does adding colour work?
AI estimates colour from the visible shades and setting. The aim is a natural, restrained result, but exact historical colours cannot be guaranteed unless you provide a reliable colour reference. Options that add colour also include a restored version without added colour.
Do I need an account?
No. You can order without creating an account. We send updates and a private order link to the email address used at checkout, so check it carefully before paying.
When does work start?
Work starts after your payment has been accepted. Opening the order-confirmation page by itself does not start a paid restoration.
Can I close the website while my order is being restored?
Yes. Work continues after you leave. Your private order page shows progress, and MemoryRevive emails you when the files are ready. An order can pause for another attempt or a safety check, so the private order page gives the most useful update.
What should I do if there is no progress?
Check the private link in your order email. If the status has not changed for 24 hours, contact us with your order number and the email address used at checkout. Do not send the photograph by ordinary email.
What files will I receive?
The files depend on the option you choose. They may include a smaller copy for email and sharing, a high-quality copy for printing, a before-and-after image, a version with colour added, one download containing all files, and personalised memory cards. Review the final list before you pay.
How are downloads protected?
Your files are available through a private link that stops working after the date shown with your order. Treat the link like a password: anyone you forward it to may be able to see progress or download files while it still works.
Are photographs used for advertising or model training?
MemoryRevive does not publish customer photographs, use them in examples or marketing, or use them to train its own AI without separate written permission. A private copy is sent to OpenAI to create the restoration. OpenAI says API data is not used to train its models by default unless the account owner opts in. See the Privacy Notice for more detail.
When are photographs and finished files deleted?
Unfinished uploads are normally deleted within 24 hours. For a completed order, your private order page shows the date photograph files will be deleted; this is normally 30 days after completion. Support records are normally kept for up to 90 days, while payment and accounting records can be kept longer where the law requires it.
Can a deleted photograph remain in a backup for a short time?
It may remain in a locked backup until that backup is replaced. Backups are not used for everyday access and are opened only to recover from a serious failure. If a backup is restored, recorded deletion requests are applied again.
What if a restoration fails or is significantly wrong?
The service may try again, pause the order or ask for a review. If included files cannot be created, are damaged or clearly do not match the option you bought, MemoryRevive may repeat the work, replace files, reduce the price fairly or issue an appropriate refund. See the Refund and Cancellation Policy; your legal rights are not restricted.
May I upload any photograph I find online?
No. You must own the relevant rights, have permission from the rights holder, be using a public-domain work or have another lawful basis for the requested restoration. Possessing a print or finding an image online does not necessarily give you copyright. See Image Rights and Acceptable Use.
Still need help?
For an existing order, check its private link first. If the status has not changed for 24 hours, visit the Contact page or email hello@memoryrevive.co.uk with the order number and checkout email address. Do not email the photograph.
